Soccer: Louisiana Falls In Road Finale At Georgia State, 2-0
ATLANTA – Brooke Shank and Jolie Ryff teamed up on a pair of goals in the first 20 minutes of the first half and Georgia State defeated the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Women's Soccer team, 2-0, in a Sun Belt Conference match on Friday at the GSU Soccer Complex.
Kendra Clarke stopped a pair of shots to earn the shutout as GSU (5-8-2, 2-4-1 Sun Belt) held a 14-11 advantage in shots, including an 8-4 edge in the first half. Louisiana, which had allowed one first-half goal in its last 13 matches, dropped to 7-6-3 on the season and 3-3-2 in Sun Belt play.
Shank, who took seven of the Panthers' 14 attempts, scored her first goal of the season in the 12th minute when she took a pass from Ryff got a shot past Louisiana goalkeeper Mackenzie Lee for a 1-0 lead.
The duo struck again in just inside the 20th minute of the half when a pass from Shank got to Ryff, who found the back of the net for her second goal of the year.
Louisiana was only to manage a pair of shots on goal against the GSU defense as Karleen Bedre was turned away by Clarke on a header in the 10th minute before Alexis Arnoult's attempt in the 28th minute was saved.
Una Einarsdottir took a team-high three shots for Louisiana with Kaylie Powell attempting a pair of shots, including one that bounced off the post in the 85th minute. Lee tallied three saves for the Ragin' Cajuns, who were whistled for 16 fouls, tying a season-high.
Louisiana will wrap up the regular-season with a pair of matches at home beginning on Friday (Oct. 25) against Georgia Southern at 7 p.m. The Ragin' Cajuns will then close out the regular-season on Sunday (Oct. 27) against Troy.
