Golf: Louisiana Finishes Ninth at the Sam Hall Intercollegiate

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns golf team moved up two spots on Tuesday at the Sam Hall Intercollegiate to finish in ninth place with a three-round score of 28-over par (880) at the par-71, 6,902-yard Hattiesburg Country Club.
"Obviously, the total finish does not meet the expectations of what we strive for on this golf team," head coach Theo Sliman said. "However, I am very pleased with the effort that I saw from the team today. If not for a couple mishaps in the final three holes we would have posted the low round for the day. For the first tournament of the season, it was a Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde performance from yesterday to today. This team obviously needs to get a lot better, but I really liked the guts and determination the team showed in the final round."
Sam Houston State claimed the team title defeating UT Arlington in a playoff after posting a 54-hole score of 5-over (857). Brad Carpenter of Missouri State used a final round 69 (-2) to claim individual medalist honors with an overall score of 2-under (211).
Elston Finishes Top 15
Junior Triston Elston continued his rise up the leaderboard on Tuesday finishing in a tie for 13th after carding a final round 69 (-2). The 69 is a career low for Elston who posted five birdies in the round. The finish is the second career top 15 for Elston who registered his third round under par since joining the Cajuns in 2015.
Tolson Posts Low Career Round
Sophomore Jack Tolson also notched a career low round of 69 (-2) in the final round of the Sam Hall Intercollegiate. Tolson played bogey-free golf on his final nine holes of the day picking up a pair of birdies on holes three and four to claim the low round.
Sliman's Thoughts
"Really glad to see Triston finish in the top 15. That's something that we expect out of our third-year players, and I thought he stepped up as a leader in our first tournament of the year. I'm also happy to see Jack post his low career round as a collegiate player."
