Athletics: Pitcher Moore named Rawlings preseason All-American, Shawn Long, Softball Tickets

Tim Buckley, The Advertiser, Jan. 10, 2016

UL pitcher Dylan Moore has been named a first team Perfect Game/Rawlings Preseason All-American, the Ragin’ Cajuns baseball program announced Monday on Twitter.

The honor is one in a string of many for Ragin’ Cajuns closer Moore, who finished his 2016 sophomore season 6-1 with a 0.91 ERA, a school-record 14 saves and 59 strikeouts in 49.2 innings pitched.

In December, Collegiate Baseball named Moore a second team preseason All-American.

After last season, the right-handed Texan was named to the All-Sun Belt Conference first team, picked for the Louisiana Sports Writer’s Association All-State team, named a second team NCBWA All-American and selected as a first team CoSIDA Academic All-American.

Moore, from Hughes Springs High in Texas, also was named UL’s Student-Athlete of the Year for 2015-16.

LONG NAMED PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Former UL basketball player Shawn Long was named NBA Development League Player of the Week on Monday.

The undrafted Long led the Delaware 87ers to a 3-1 week, averaging 24.5 points on 53.5 percent shooting from the floor and a league-high 13.5 rebounds per game.

He had double-doubles in all four games, including a career-high 45 points on 19-of-26 shooting and 14 boards in a 129-105 victory over Erie last Friday night.

One day later, Long scored 20 points and pulled down 11 rebounds for the Philadelphia 76ers’ D-League affiliate in a 116-88 win over Westchester.

Long is averaging 19.1 points (52.5 percent from the field) and 10.3 board (fourth in the league) in his first pro season.

The Morgan City product also is one of just four D-League averaging a double-double.
