BOCA RATON, Fla. - Louisiana's Ragin’ Cajuns freshman pitcher Brittany Cuevas' stellar performance in the circle on Sunday afternoon, provided the 15th-ranked Ragin' Cajuns with a 3-0 win over Florida Atlantic.

The win completed the weekend sweep for the Cajuns over FAU and improved UL's conference record to 4-2, and their season record to 24-6. FAU dropped to 0-3 in SBC play and 13-10 overall.

Cuevas finished the complete game shutout giving up only two hits, striking out 11 Owl hitters and did not issue a walk in the contest. Cuevas improves to 14-3 with the win and FAU starter Jen Musillo drops to 4-5. Musillo also pitched a complete and had 10 strike outs.

The Cajun hitters pounded out 11 hits on the afternoon and scored single runs in the first, fourth and seventh innings.

UL right fielder Desi Chatman picked up where she left off on Saturday night, providing the Cajuns with an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning, with a double to left centerfield.  Chatman's double scored Codi Runyan from second, who led off the game with a walk.

Lacey Bertucci added a single in the top of the first for the Ragin' Cajuns, which advanced Runyan to second.

In the top half the fourth, the Cajuns added a single run to extend their lead to 2-0.  Lana Bowers lined the first pitch of the inning from FAU starting pitcher Jen Musillo off the left field wall and Tara Hamilton followed with a perfectly executed sacrifice bunt, advancing Bowers to third.

Vallie Gaspard followed with a double of her own down the left field line, plating Bowers and Louisiana led 2-0 at the end of 3 1/2 innings of play.

The Cajuns were able to escape the bottom of the fourth after two errors and a controversial call on a ball hit down the left field line appeared to land foul, but was called fair, put runners at second and third for the Owls with only one out.  Cuevas was able to force the following two FAU hitters to ground out and line out to third ending the Owl's threat.

Musillo was able to pitch out of trouble in the top of the sixth as the Cajuns had runners at first and second with one out.  With one out in the inning Gaspard reached first on an infield single to third and Karli Hubbard singled to left advancing Gaspard to second.  However, UL was unable to make any further noise in the inning.

Bertucci took Musillo's first offering in the top half of the seventh inning over the centerfield wall for her fifth round tripper of the season and second of the weekend series, giving Louisiana an insurance run and a 3-0 lead going into the bottom of the last inning of play.

Cuevas struck out the side in the bottom of the seventh and the Cajuns completed the 3-0 win.

Bertucci, Chatman, Verde, and Gaspard each had two hits apiece for Louisiana.Tankersley, Bowers, and Karli Hubbard also added hits for the Cajuns.

Tankersley extended her season-high hitting streak to 14 games.

The Cajuns will next be in action on Thursday as they travel to Fullerton, Calif., to participate in the prestigious Judi Garman Classic hosted by Cal State Fullerton.  Louisiana-Lafayette will face Notre Dame, Fresno State, and highly ranked Arizona State in pool play.
