Golf: Mean Green Day 2 Cajuns Conclude Play at Mean Green InvitationalMichael Smith led the Cajuns and finished tied for fifth. LANTANA, Texas-Louisiana’s Ragin’ Cajuns men’s golf team posted some low scores on the final day of the 2006 Cobb/Ferrell Mean Green Classic, but it was a little too late as the Cajuns were only able to move into ninth place overall. Weather conditions improved on the second day of competition, leading to much better scores all around. After shooting an opening round 299 as a team, the Cajuns rebounded with a three-over par 291 in the second round and a four-over par 292 in the final round of play. UL finished their first tournament of the year just 27 strokes off of the tournament champion Oral Roberts. Tournament host North Texas finished just two strokes ahead of the Cajuns in eighth place. Junior Michael Smith paced the Cajuns with a fifth place finish. He posted three consecutive sub-par rounds to finish four strokes under par. Following his opening round 70, Smith carded a pair of 71s to give him a 212 for the tournament, four strokes of the individual champion. The rest of the Cajuns’ competitors improved significantly from their first round. Morgan Landry, who finished the first round in a tie for 40th, rebounded with a round of par and a two-under 70 to finish in a tie for 12th. Kyle Pritchard moved from 33rd to 22nd, after rounds of par and two-over par. Rounding out the scoring for the Ragin’ Cajuns, Devin Carrey, B.C.
