Softball Announces 2007 Schedule Click Here to View the 2007 Schedule LAFAYETTE - Louisiana’s Ragin’ Cajuns softball schedule for the 2007 season was released Saturday. The Ragin’ Cajuns will enjoy at least 30 home games at Alfred and Helen Lamson Ragin’ Cajuns Softball Park and will make their annual visit to the Judi Garman Classic in Fullerton, Calif., in March.In all the Cajuns will have 19 playing dates at Lamson Park and will welcome Georgia, Wichita State, Baylor, Iowa State, Purdue and Houston to the friendly confines. The 2007 will mark the seventh campaign under co-head coaches Stefni and Michael Lotief. The season begins with the Cajuns hosting their annual home tournaments in February. UL hosts the 21st Annual Louisiana Classic Friday-Sunday, Feb. 9-11 and the Ragin’ Cajuns Invitational Friday-Sunday, Feb. 16-18. Georgia and Wichita State join the Ragin’ Cajuns and McNeese State for the Louisiana Classic. The Cajuns will welcome Baylor, Iowa State, Ole Miss and Purdue for the Ragin’ Cajuns Invitational. UL will then make stops at tournaments hosted by Northwestern State (Feb. 23-25) and Alabama (March 2-4). The team’s final tournament of the season will be the prestigious Judi Garman Classic hosted by Cal State Fullerton March 15-18. At the Garman Classic the Ragin’ Cajuns will be paired with Fresno State (March 15), Arizona State (March 16) and Notre Dame (March 16) in pool play. Louisiana-Lafayette will see an increase in Sun Belt Conference games in 2007 as the league has expanded with the addition of Florida Atlantic, Louisiana-Monroe and South Alabama. UL will play 24 Sun Belt games – an increase from the 15 played in 2006. The Cajuns will have a busy week the first week of SBC play tackling six contests over five days. UL will host Middle Tennessee in the league-opening series March 7-8 at Lamson Park. Two days later and the squad will find itself in Boca Raton, Fla., for a weekend series with SBC newcomer Florida Atlantic March 10-11. After a break from league play the next weekend to participate in the Judi Garman Classic UL resumes Sun Belt play March 24-25 hosting Western Kentucky. UL will host arch-rival Florida International over Easter weekend. Meetings with the Golden Panthers are scheduled for Friday-Saturday, April 6-7. Troy is the opponent for the Cajuns’ final home weekend of SBC play April 21-22. The Ragin’ Cajuns finish their home schedule in the month of May as a doubleheader is scheduled for Wednesday, May 2 against Nicholls State. The regular season concludes at the end of the week as the first-ever Sun Belt series with in-state foe Louisiana-Monroe is held May 5-6 in Monroe. The 2007 Sun Belt Conference Tournament takes place in Murfreesboro, Tenn., at the Middle Tennessee Softball Complex. The conference's first-ever eight-team tournament runs May 9-12. The Ragin’ Cajuns non-conference schedule features traditional midweek games with in-state foes Nicholls State, Northwestern State and McNeese State. UL will welcome Conference USA members Southern Mississippi (March 22 single game) and Houston (April 18 doubleheader) to Lamson Park. In Sun Belt road games the Cajuns will travel to meet South Alabama (April 14-15) and North Texas (April 28-29) in addition to the FAU and ULM trips.
